An Israeli security guard has been killed and at least 10 people injured in a suicide bombing in the town of Kfar Saba, Israeli police say. The attack happened shortly after 0700 local time (0400GMT) on Thursday as the morning rush hour began. Israeli police say the bomber, who also died, detonated his explosives when he was challenged by security guards at the entrance to the city’s new train station. In a separate incident, two Palestinian men were shot dead by Israeli troops in a village near the West Bank town of Ramallah. The two incidents came shortly after the end of a stand-off between Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and his designated prime minister, Mahmoud Abbas, potentially opening the way for a new stage in efforts to bring peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
