President Olusegun Obasanjo’s daughter, Iyabo, Sunday evening escaped gun attacks as men suspected to be armed robbers fired at her car, killing four of the people inside the vehicle, a Peugeot 607 with presidency number plate. Presidency officials, however, do not rule out assassins. Those killed include the driver, police orderly, and two young children. The police orderly who was wearing a bullet proof vest was shot in the neck. The fifth passenger, a friend of Iyabo’s, was said to have been injured and is recuperating in an undisclosed location. Efforts to confirm the identities of the victims were not successful at press time, but THISDAY gathered that the two children killed may have been children of Iyabo’s friend who were visiting her for the Easter celebration.
