IDF thwarts two Passover bomb plots

In an operation in Tul Karm early yesterday morning, the IDF shot a Palestinian and arrested five militants planning suicide bombings during Passover week. According to Palestinian sources, IDF paratroopers shot Yusuf Yahya, 21, after being spotted on the streets of Tul Karm, under curfew like all other cities and towns in the territories. The Palestinians say that Yahya had no link with Palestinian militants. However, an IDF spokesman said that the man was shot after throwing petrol bombs against the patrolling troops. The army said it imposed the curfew while searching for a suicide bombing cell, and arrested four members of Islamic Jihad including a 33-year old woman courier who was supposed to bring explosives into Israel for use by a bomber. The bomber was not found, nor was the explosive belt. Those arrested are Maamun Abu Salem, Amin Ghnayem, and Fursan Halifa. The woman was not yet named by the security services. Troops also arrested a militant from the Islamic movement Hamas in Tul Karm, who planned a separate suicide attack. Full Story
