The night before tax day it’s important to remind the growing number of e-filers that you need to protect your financial information. Cybercriminals are looking for any vulnerabilities. Now imagine all of your tax information getting in the wrong hands. “The information you keep on your computer could be a gold mine for an identity thief,” Internet security expert Jimmy Doyle says. The IRS expects 54 million e-filers this year, which provides a lot of opportunities for cyber criminals. Internet identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes, that’s why computer users need to be pro-active. Otherwise you could end up like Kyle Arteaga. “My identity was stolen online. It started with a cell phone in California being opened in my name, various credit cards and still to this day I get new credit cards coming in that I’m not aware of… it’s been a nightmare,” Arteaga says.
