Bowing to public pressure, the PWG naxals on Friday freed the three policemen they had abducted more than a week ago from Prakasham district of Andhra Pradesh. SI P Anjaneyulu, ASI M Subba Rao and constable S Brahamaih reached Markapur police station in Prakasham district at 6.30 am, district SP Charu Sinha said. In all, four policemen were kidnapped by the ultras when they were returning in a state-owned RTC bus after attending a bandobust duty near Markapur in Nallamalla forest on April 2. The kidnappers had set a 48-hour deadline to concede to their demand after releasing a homeguard Babu Rao on Wednesday. However, the state government, which had withdrawn combing operation in Nallamalla forest as demanded by the abductors, was not committal about other demands, including the release of some Naxals.
