Police are searching for a group of Ecuadoreans and Colombians suspected of plotting an attack against Ecuador’s president, the country’s top police chief said Thursday. Police Gen. Edgar Vaca told Ecuador’s Congress that two Ecuadoreans met with nine Colombians recently and agreed to a $1.5 million contract to kill President Lucio Gutierrez. Vaca said police in coordination with Interpol agents discovered the plan. He did not elaborate, saying only that police were looking for the suspects. There have been no reports of any attacks against Gutierrez. Vaca said authorities were concerned that the threat against him could still exist. Full Story
