Facing a barrage of criticism by members of both parties, Gov. George E. Pataki today abandoned his demand that the state receive a greater share of federal antiterrorism money, agreeing to allow New York City to have the money it is seeking from Congress. The governor’s decision ends a bruising battle that had erupted between him and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, a fellow Republican, who had publicly challenged the governor’s attempts to claim some of security money that Congress is expected to approve for the city. Full Story
