Iran’s reformist president warned Thursday that terrorists would view the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq as a “green light” to attack U.S. interests and called on Americans to “wake up” and stop the war. “Those who drop bombs and missiles on Iraq will harvest nothing other than destruction and people’s hatred,” state-run Tehran television quoted President Mohammad Khatami as saying. “If this war is not contained, its consequences for the world and the region will be many times more dangerous than the Vietnam tragedy.” Iran’s soft-spoken president said the invasion of Iraq would only provoke violence. “Through this war, you are giving a green light to extremists to resort to violence to counter your violence,” Khatami was quoted as saying. “The American nation should wake up and stand up to this war. America’s warmongering rulers are isolated and alone … and the war will isolate them further day by day.” Full Story
