A United Airlines flight from London to New York was diverted to Ireland on Thursday after a crew member found a “troubling” note in a seatback pocket, an airline official said. The Boeing 777 landed safely at Shannon Airport in southwestern Ireland, where police escorted passengers and crew members off the plane but did not immediately search the aircraft. “Everybody aboard was taken to a secure area, and obviously they were all searched, but nothing suspicious was found,” said Jim Molloy, a spokesman for Ireland’s national police force. He said officers did not plan to search the plane until after 4:10 p.m. EST – its scheduled landing time at John F. Kennedy International Airport. “This just makes sense, in case there were to be some kind of explosive device on board,” he said. Full Story
