Journalists in the Americas are under increasing threat of violence, including murder, the Inter-American Press Association said Monday. At its midyear meeting, the IAPA, also criticized restrictions on the media including U.S. measures that limit access to news in connection with the war against terrorism. The officials referred to provisions of the Patriot Act that give the FBI legal tools to access the papers and records of anyone suspected of involvement with international terrorism.
