Advice to subway employees from superiors in the event of a terror attack: “Run like hell.” That’s what crews are being told, according to several NYC Transit employees, even as the agency tells straphangers to seek out workers in their trains if attacked. “If something were to go wrong today, it would be chaotic,” said a supervisor with more than 10 years experience who works in prominent stations. “No one would know what to do first.” The supervisor, speaking on condition of anonymity, said while employees are given gas masks and training, many lack detailed contingency plans for evacuating passengers.
