The Russian Defense Ministry said Thursday that two helicopter gunships had simply become separated from a group of aircraft in Chechnya, denying a news report that they were missing. The Interfax news agency, citing a source in Russian military headquarters in the war-shattered region, had reported that the two Mi-24 helicopters disappeared during a military operation Thursday. But the ministry’s press service said the two helicopters had arrived back at the Khankala military base, just outside Grozny, behind schedule. It was not clear how many men were aboard the two helicopters. The helicopters usually carry two crew members, but they also have cabin space for carrying up to eight soldiers. Full Story
