3 Die In 'Political Violence'
At least three people were killed on Thursday in the central Nigerian city of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, by suspected hired political thugs, a top official said on Friday. One of those killed was a close relation of state governor Mohammed Lawal, information commissioner Wale Oladepo said. Radio Nigeria also reported on Friday morning that at least three people were killed in the attack, but police confirmed only one death. Oladepo said that the attack could have been in reprisal for the arrest earlier this week in the city of five foreigners and a Nigerian suspected of having terrorist links. The six suspects were arrested on Tuesday over an alleged plan to assassinate the governor, Oladepo said. The foreigners, holding British passports, were caught in possession of “incriminating documents” which indicated they were either “terrorists or trainers in terrorism”, said Oladepo. Full Story
