At least 12 U.S. embassies and one consulate closed to the public for security reasons on Thursday after the United States attacked Iraq, a U.S. official said. The embassies in Almaty, Amman, Buenos Aires, Cairo, Caracas, Damascus, Kabul, Oslo, Pretoria, Nairobi, Riyadh and Skopje and the consulate in Johannesburg were closed for most public services except American citizen services, said the official, who asked not to be named. The list is preliminary and is likely to grow as the day continues and more reports come in from embassies, she added. The embassies in Cairo and Damascus closed after protesters took to the streets in protest at the U.S. attack and demanded the expulsion of the U.S. ambassadors. Full Story
