Tribal Militants Kill Seven in Nigeria

Tribal militants armed with guns and machetes attacked two villages, killing seven people and razing a base camp belonging to the Royal/Dutch Shell oil company, residents and officials said Tuesday. Shell already had evacuated the Escravos camp, which houses company workers and supplies, but was pulling out employees located nearby, said Frank Efeduma, a spokesman for the company’s Nigerian subsidiary. Monday’s attacks follow a March 12 shootout between troops and ethnic Ijaw militants in a village near the oil port of Warri, where several oil multinationals are based.
