Eleven die in Kashmir clashes

At least eight militants and three others were killed in violence in Indian-administered Kashmir on Monday, police say. Six militants were killed in Doda district, and two others in the southern district of Anantnag, after gun battles with security forces. Elsewhere in the disputed state, a policeman, an alleged informer and a civilian all lost their lives. The violence comes just a day after nine policemen and two civilians were killed in an attack on a police post in the state’s Jammu region. The BBC’s Jill McGivering in Delhi says Sunday’s attack was one of the worst yet in what appears to be a renewed spate of violence in Kashmir. On Friday, at least seven people – including three police officers – died during a siege at a hotel in the town of Poonch. Full Story
