Intelligence officials in Pakistan are continuing to question a suspected leading al-Qaeda member arrested over the weekend. Yasir al-Jaziri, said to be a Moroccan national, was detained during a raid in the city of Lahore on Saturday. He is not on the FBI’s list of most wanted terrorists, but Pakistan is describing his detention as another important breakthrough in the hunt for al-Qaeda suspects sheltering on its territory. Reports quoting Pakistani officials say Mr al-Jaziri may be providing useful leads about the al-Qaeda organisation. His arrest comes two weeks after the suspected mastermind behind the 11 September attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, was arrested in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is now in US custody. Pakistani Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said Mr al-Jaziri was a prominent member of al-Qaeda. “It is another big catch, but not as big as Khalid Sheikh Mohammed,” he said. Full Story
