Ivory Coast’s main rebel faction said it would not attend the first meeting of a new power-sharing coalition on Thursday, which means at least 14 ministers in the 41-member government will be absent. Patriotic Movement of Ivory Coast (MPCI) spokesman Antoine Beugre said its leaders, attributed seven posts in a government designed to end nearly six months of civil war, would not travel to the government-held capital Yamoussoukro on Thursday. The main opposition Rally for the Republicans has already said its seven ministers were not in the West African country because of fears for their security and would miss the meeting at which the government’s composition is due to be unveiled.
