CIA veteran named to head inter-agency terrorism clearinghouse

A longtime CIA veteran and top aide to CIA Director George Tenet will head a new clearinghouse for foreign and domestic terrorism analysis. Tenet named John Brennan as director of the Terrorist Threat Integration Center, White House press secretary Ari Fleischer said Tuesday. Brennan, now the CIA’s deputy executive director and Tenet’s chief of staff before that, has been with the agency for 23 years. The center, first announced by President Bush in the State of the Union address, is aimed at streamlining intelligence analysis and assuring coordination among agencies, such as the CIA and FBI, that were criticized for doing a poor job in sharing information before the Sept. 11 attacks. The center is to begin work on May 1, and will initially be located on the CIA compound outside Washington. The center will report directly to the CIA director. Full Story
