Malacañang is considering branding the secessionist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) a terrorist organization for its suspected involvement in last week’s Davao City airport bombing, Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes said yesterday. At the same time, how-ever, President Arroyo has ordered local Mindanao officials to hold local peace talks with rebels operating in their respective areas. Reyes admitted in a media forum that a terrorist tag could jeopardize peace initiatives with the MILF. Asked whether it was now appropriate to label the MILF a terrorist organization as its leaders had already been charged in connection with the Davao blast, Reyes said: “We have not done that yet and we are studying it. This is because we know that definitely it will have repercussions on the peace talks.” Full Story
