Police arrested five men in connection with a politically motivated double murder in a southern Mexican town, prosecutors said. Oaxaca State Attorney Sergio Santiba ez said two people were killed and three wounded Thursday night in a clash between Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) supporters in the town of San Pedro Amuzgos, located on Mexico’s southern Pacific coast. PRD members Arnoldo Pe a Rojas and Alfredo Hernandez Bernardino were killed and Dagoberto Rojas, Simon Hernandez and Marcial Hernandez are being treated at area hospitals. Police arrested Alfonso Bernabe, 42; Manuel Lopez, 34; Nicolas Perez, 28; Bonifacio Lopez, 70; and a 15-year-old male, all lifelong residents of San Juan Amuzgos, in connection with the shootings. According to prosecutors, on Wednesday the PRD staged a demonstration to demand the removal of San Juan Amuzgos municipal council chief Manuel Elpidio Hernandez, a member of the PRI, alleging he misappropriated 6 million pesos ($ 545,450) of municipal funds.
