Doctors in the United States are so busy vaccinating people against smallpox that they might not notice an actual outbreak, it has been claimed. A survey of public health departments shows over half have cut back on routine work as they press ahead with the vaccination programme. In December, US President George W Bush announced plans to vaccinate 500,000 key workers against the disease. By the middle of the year, 10 million people are scheduled to be vaccinated. Full Story
