A team from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was on its way to Nigeria on Thursday to investigate the disappearance of two radioactive devices, the British Broadcasting Corporation reported. The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Agency admitted earlier this week that two hand-held devices used to X-ray oil pipelines for cracks went missing in December in the Niger Delta region, either stolen or fallen off a truck. An official from the IAEA told the BBC the devices contain cesium-137, radioactive material that could be used to make a so-called “dirty bomb”. The devices have enough radioactivity to harm anyone’s health who handles them unknowingly, Nigerian authorities said. Full Story
