Israeli forces killed a wanted Hamas member on Tuesday as he tried to resist capture in an army sweep of the West Bank and Gaza Strip for suspected militants, Palestinian witnesses and Israeli sources said. The Israeli killing of 27-year-old Muhammed Morr in Yatta village near the West Bank city of Hebron was the latest incident in a fresh surge of violence that has left four Israeli soldiers and 11 Palestinians dead since Saturday. Witnesses said Morr was first shot in the leg and then shot and killed. Israeli military sources said Morr was a senior Islamic militant who barricaded himself in his home to resist arrest. They said soldiers, who suspected Morr was armed, opened fire and killed him. The army said 15 Palestinians in the West Bank and nine in the Gaza Strip were arrested for suspected militant activity.
