Kim Dae-han, 56, whose act of arson in a crowded subway car in Taegu yesterday led to the deaths of over 130 people and injured over 140 others, shows symptoms of hypochondria and suffers from a second-degree physical disability. Kim was arrested two hours after receiving emergency treatment for minor injuries he sustained on his hands and feet from the fire and immediately taken into police custody. He had difficulty speaking because of the effects of toxic gas inhalation. In a preliminary police probe at the hospital, Kim refused to talk about his motives, saying he lit the fire because he wanted to die.
