Indian army to set up centres for cyber security

With the moves towards warfare-information dominance, Indian Army has finalized plans for setting up a Tactical Communication System (TCS) to link up frontline formations right up to the battalion level and set up centers for cyber security. Unveiling the planks of the new proposed TCS system, which has been sent to the Ministry of Defence for approval, the Signal Officer in Chief at Army Headquarters, Lt Gen DP Sehgal said under the project, Army Headquarters as well as command and corps formations would now be hooked up to battalion headquarters on both voice and data secure links. “The project has been agreed in principle by the government and once the sanction comes we would set up the new link to frontline troops by this financial year”, he told newsmen on the occasion of the 92nd Corps Day of the Signals regiment, according to a media report. Stating that Signals had incorporated a number of lessons from the year-long deployment – ‘Operation Parakaram’, Sehgal said the regiment during the operations had fine tuned the art of ‘tactical listening’ deep inside the enemy territory.
