Powell Grilled On Terror Alert

The South Florida Democrat looked Secretary of State Colin Powell in the eye. “What people are saying to me is, Wexler, why are we in Code Orange? Are we in Code Orange because of Saddam Hussein and Iraq? Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go. “But if we are in Code Orange because of something totally unrelated to Saddam Hussein and Iraq, then what are we doing?” he asked. “The American people … are totally confused.” Wexler was not alone in those feelings. Eight days ago at the United Nations, Powell was hailed as the reluctant warrior who made a convincing case for attacking Iraq.
