Fighting between government forces and Muslim insurgents raged on yesterday in the worst rebel flare-up in three years in the southern Philippines, with the death toll nearing 200, officials said. Halfway into the fourth day of the major military offensive, the armed forces vowed to capture by sunset a major Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) base defended by up to 2,000 gunmen.
