In response to the government’s warnings about a possible terrorist attack, Houston-area residents are stocking up on everything from batteries and water to duct tape and plastic sheets. Issuing the most serious precautions since Sept. 11, 2001, U.S. officials Monday advised families to stock up on three days of food and water and supplies in event of a local terrorist attack. Nancy Ballard, a Houston professional golfer, purchased batteries, tape and 500 square feet of industrial plastic from a Montrose-area hardware store to place on windows and ventilation ducts if necessary. “I figure the government for the last few days has issued all these warnings, and now with the potential tape of Osama bin Laden coming out, I’m not willing to take my chances,” she said.
