One day after federal officials told American families to stockpile three days of food and water and ready plastic and duct tape to seal off a safe room in the event of terror attacks, FBI Director Robert Mueller said Americans should go about their business, but be alert. Mueller and CIA Director George Tenet appeared before the Senate Intelligence Committee Tuesday to discuss worldwide threats. Committee Chairman Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kansas, ribbed the officials about news reports Tuesday indicating that the Department of Homeland Security was recommending the stockpiling and plastic. Roberts said his wife had called him Tuesday and asked, “‘What did you do with the duct tape and plastic you used to use to cover the El Camino?” Roberts said that after reading the news reports, “She was quite concerned that as Chairman of the Intelligence Committee I had not told her to do this.” “What advice would you offer the man or woman in the street other than to get out of the city?” Roberts asked.
