As a new prime minister began putting together a coalition government to try to bring peace to Ivory Coast, a presidential adviser said on Tuesday rebels would not get the posts they had demanded.
Under the terms of a French-brokered peace deal, new premier Seydou Diarra is charged with assembling all political groups, including rebels, in a government designed to end a nearly five-month civil war which has killed thousands. But an adviser to President Laurent Gbagbo said Tuesday it would be a dangerous precedent for democracy and Africa if rebels were given key cabinet posts after trying to oust the president by force.
