Kuwaiti Denies Killing American in Shooting
A Kuwaiti accused of killing an American and wounding another in a shooting attack last month told a court on Saturday that he was innocent and had confessed to the crime under duress, his lawyer said. Kuwaiti police have said Sami al-Mutairi, whom they describe as a sympathizer of al Qaeda, confessed to opening fire on a car near a U.S. military base and killing its occupant, civilian Michael Rene Pouliot, and wounding his colleague David Caraway. Mutairi and two other men held in connection with the ambush told a Kuwaiti court on Saturday they were innocent and requested medical examinations to prove they confessed under duress, their lawyer, Muhammad al-Mutairi, told Reuters.
