Unidentified gunmen killed a senior Nigerian opposition politician in the latest violence ahead of the country’s April presidential and general elections, police said on Monday. Ogbonnaya Uche, a senatorial candidate for the main opposition All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) was attacked on Saturday by two gunmen who broke into his home in the southeastern town of Owerri. “They shot him and a domestic staff and he died this (Monday) morning after a major operation,” Imo state commissioner of police Ben Oghomone told Reuters by phone from Owerri, the state capital.
