Rebel attacks on federal positions and land mine explosions left seven soldiers dead over the past 24 hours, and three riot police officers were killed in a rebel ambush, an official in the pro-Moscow Chechen administration said Friday. In 10 attacks over the past day, rebels killed three soldiers and wounded three, the Chechen official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. A land mine exploded in the Chechen capital Grozny killing two Russian servicemen. Another two servicemen were killed when their armored personnel carrier detonated a mine in the Vedeno district, the official said. In the southern village of Dyshne-Vedeno, rebels ambushed a squad of riot police, killing three and wounding four. The rebels escaped unharmed, the official said. Full Story
