Qais Ibrahim steps into the interrogations room. His hands are bound together by a brown leat-her strap. He is wearing a green sweat suit. There are traces of acne under his long, bushy beard. His bright eyes quickly scan everything in the room, except for the lady seated at his right. He apologises: “I cannot look at a lady. It is forbidden. But with your permission, I will look upon you as a professional.” Permis-sion granted, he steals a furtive glance at me, whispers a prayer, and looks away. The interview can begin.
