US troops, foreign embassies and American businesses in the Philippines have been warned to expect terrorist attacks if war breaks out in Iraq, Armed Forces chief Gen. Dionisio Santiago said yesterday. The government is taking security precautions while discussing possible military support for what would likely be a US-led military campaign to disarm Saddam Hussein of suspected weapons of mass destruction, he said. “The possibility is very strong that it will happen,” Santiago told the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines forum when asked about possible attacks in the event of a US-led war on Iraq. Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Manila said it was taking precautions and monitoring the situation. More than 100,000 Americans live in the Philippines, and the US is a key source of foreign investment.
