According to sources, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema ruled Thursday, during a closed hearing, that the lawyers can have access to captured terrorist Ramzi Binalshibh. The Bush administration had opposed that. Some people in the Pentagon and White House argue that giving Moussaoui any kind of access to captured al Qaeda members will jeopardize their intelligence gathering. The ruling will almost certainly renew the debate about whether Moussaoui should be transferred to the military justice system where access to witnesses would be severely — possibly entirely — restricted.
