According to a survey by security consultant Defcom, firms are deciding to protect their reputations rather than report hacking to the police. More than two thirds of those surveyed cited a risk to corporate image as the reason for not disclosing cyber-crime. Defcom said that typical unreported security breaches include fairly trivial incidents, such as the defacement of corporate websites, to more serious hacking attempts on databases, according to the BBC.
