Liberian rebels attacking from neighboring Ivory Coast have seized a Liberian border town, defense sources said Monday, in the latest tangle in West Africa’s chaotic web of conflicts. The sources confirmed reports on President Charles Taylor’s private Kiss-FM radio station that rebels attacked the town of Beam Sunday. At least one person was reported killed. “The government will take appropriate measures to expel the terrorists,” Kiss-FM said, referring to rebels of Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD), which has been fighting to oust Taylor since mid-2000. “The Liberian government has described this as a blatant violation of its territorial integrity,” it said.
