A House of Representatives committee approved a bill on Wednesday that would allow some airline pilots to carry guns for a two-year trial period as a last line of defense against hijackers. The measure would allow about 1 out of 50 commercial pilots to undergo firearms training and carry weapons on board for a two-year period while other security measures such as reinforced cockpit doors and baggage screening are gradually installed.
