Air cargo security another challenge for new federal agency
As they scramble to meet a year-end deadline for thorough screening of all checked airline passenger baggage, federal officials are also trying to address a security concern that has received much less public attention: air cargo. Many passenger planes carry mail and freight packages in their bellies, and hundreds of other cargo-only planes zip through the skies every day.
