NATO commander distances coalition from Afghanistan airstrikes

“NATO’s top military commander on Thursday sought to distance the alliance from recent American airstrikes in Afghanistan, insisting that the coalition is focused solely on training, advising, and assisting the Afghans, not dropping bombs. U.S. aircraft have conducted at least 24 airstrikes since Aug. 22 in Helmand province in an effort to shore up beleaguered Afghan troops fighting off determined Taliban offensives, especially in Musa Qala district.”
