23 dead as Madagascar troops battle cattle rustlers

“Deadly clashes between troops and armed cattle rustlers on the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar have left 23 people dead, the army said on Thursday. Eight of the dead were soldiers while 15 of them were cattle thieves, known as ‘dahalos’ in the local Malagasy language. ‘We have eight soldiers killed and another 12 injured,’ said Theophile Rakotonirina, head of the army’s operations and intelligence unit.”
