“Despite simmering tensions between Tehran and Washington, two American warships sped to save a crew of sick Iranian mariners adrift in the North Arabian Sea. According to a statement from U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, the guided-missile destroyer Hopper and the guided-missile cruiser Monterey answered a radio distress call from an Iranian fishing dhow on Tuesday. A rescue helicopter from the Monterey found the small boat. A boarding team from the Hopper found five ill sailors and gave them medicine, leaving ‘after ensuring the crew was safe,’ according to the Central Command statement. The rescue came in the wake of three decades of maritime incidents between the two nations. “
