“Results of Mexico’s antinarcotics strategy in 2016 show that seizures of all types of drugs and of weapons reserved for military use are down while homicides and the production of synthetic drugs and heroin have increased dramatically. That balance showing negative results on virtually all fronts is drawn from statistics reported by the Mexican government, the United Nations, the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Mexican Army. Seizures of methamphetamines have fallen by more than 99 percent, heroin seizures are down by more than 16 percent, and confiscation of other types of drugs are down by 80 percent.”
