“Mexico’s homicides fell last year for a second consecutive year as the gangland wars in several hot spots eased, offering some hope that government efforts to curb years of criminal violence are beginning to pay off. There were 22,732 homicides in the country last year, equivalent to 19 per 100,000 inhabitants, according to preliminary numbers published Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute, or Inegi.”
