SmarterASP.NET reported that they were attacked by ransomware on Saturday, November 9th. The hosting provider currently boasts 440,000 customers and reported that users’ accounts were under attack in a brief message posted to its website. SmarterASP.net stated that they are working with security experts to decrypt data and recover from the attack.
The ransomware attack on SmarterASP.NET follows two other major web hosting companies that went down previously this year due to data breaches. The attack targeted both SmarterASP.NET itself and customer data. SmarterASP.NET’s website remained down on Saturday but has since come back online.
