A new Check Point report warns that retail phishing URLs have surged by 275% this month. Last year the researchers also noted a rise in phishing attacks in the period leading up to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but this seasonal spike is far bigger this year.
Cybercriminals use a variety of scams of take advantage of holiday shopping sprees. The vast majority involve the use of a fake domain made to resemble the website of a popular retailer. Some scammers try to trick people into paying for goods they will never deliver, while others harvest payment information that can be used for further attacks or sold on the dark web to other criminals.
