68% of businesses feel moderately (47%), very (16%) or extremely (5%) vulnerable to insider threats, and only 42% say their efforts to monitor, detect and respond to these threats are effective (31%) or very effective (11%), a new report by Gurucul and Cybersecurity Insiders shows. A majority (53%) of firms indicate that detecting and mitigating insider threats has become more challenging after their migrated to the cloud.
When it comes to the types of malicious insiders, organizations are most worried about the threat posed by privileged IT users and admins (63%) and to a lesser extent about regular workers (51%), contractors and service providers (50%) and executives (50%). Despite the rise in supply-chain attacks, a mere 11% of firms are concerned about insider threats coming from business partners.
