According to a new Webroot report, the nastiest ransomware threat of 2019 was the Emotet – Trickbot – Ryuk attack chain that resulted in massive financial losses for targeted organizations. The Trickbot – Ryuk combination also features on the list separately, taking the second spot. Other top ransomware threats were the Dridex –Bitpaymer attack chain; GandCrab, which retired in the second half of this year; Sodinokibi; and Crysis/Dharma.
The botnets that featured on the ransomware list were also considered the most dangerous malware of their kind. Emotet is listed as the nastiest botnet, followed by Trickbot and Dridex. The cryptojacking malware list is topped by Hidden Bee, with Retadup claiming second place.
